GAGED HAMILTON: A PUBLIC FORUM ON ART, GENTIFRICATION, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

A collaborative, public forum examining the interlocking issues of development, arts, and gentrification in Hamilton resulting in greater knowledge and networks for activism and policy work, and with a commitment to social justice and equality.
GAGED has sought community collaboration from various people and groups doing critical work in Hamilton and have shaped this program accordingly. Panels/workshops from the Disability Justice Network of Ontario, the Coalition of Black and Racialized artists, the Hamilton Tenants Solidarity Network, frontline social services/housing workers, and LGBTQ2S+ community regarding gentrification. Workshops and panels will address:
the role of the arts/artists in Hamiltonís so-called renaissance;
whats gentrification means for Hamiltonís Indigenous community?
How can residents retain or gain access to affordable living spaces;
New Hamiltonians and their perspective on development; repercussions of gentrification on women, sex workers, LGBTQ+ communities, communities of colour; gentrification and policing. the role of the University in the gentrification process; the service industry, restaurants, and gentrification.
